I've been watching "Beauty and the Beast" on Disney Channel and am getting very excited for summer! (They must have known I needed to do my research. Haha. ) As the choreographer for this summer's production I've got a lot of work ahead of me. How do you take a well-known cartoon movie full of magic and create the same magic live onstage? With an amazing production team and a talented group of campers - any magic is possible! We are going to be busy with our show choreography and learning technique but I want to make sure we also have a lot of fun. When I teach, I want my students to not only know their dances but to also instill a love of dance, theater, and the arts in general that will last them all through life. I hope this love of dance is also something that campers can go home and share with their family and friends. During the camp days, we will touch on a variety of styles of dance. If you have seen shows like "America's Next Best Dance Crew", or "So You Think You Can Dance", or "Dancing With The Stars", you know there are so many styles of dance to choose from as a choreographer. I don't know how many we will get to in our weeks together but we will grab from a variety of styles to put together the musical numbers in "Beauty and the Beast." If you have any styles you love to dance or always wanted to try, please let me know. I know that we will have campers that come from many different backgrounds in dance....some with many years of technique to some with no dance experience and all that come in-between. We will dance and work as a cast, a team, all working towards one main goal of making "Beauty and the Beast" the best show it can be. For those of you who may be a little intimidated by dance - All I ask for is that you TRY! And who knows, you may be a dancer and not even know it yet... Ms Carli
