The campers on Friday worked on Theater techniques which will help them prepare for the performance of Bye Bye Birdie. Brian worked with them on Focus and Concentration games and developed group awareness among the cast. Later Dana Connie and Elaine conducted a workshop on building and the physicality of characters. The afternoon was spent rehearsing and performing our pick up bands which performed in the little theatre for each other. A rockin time was had by all.

"Bye Bye Birdie" is (mostly) cast and we are starting to get this show on the road! Today we read through the entire script (with music) for the first time. It was so much fun to hear out characters come alive for the first time! Excitement abounds! We played some new theatre games including "Clap Around" The game was pretty difficult at first, but with a bit of concentration and eye contact, we really improved with successive rounds! Tomorrow, for some added fun, we are going to rock it out with air band! Each group picked a rock and roll song from the 50's/60's era to perform tomorrow. We spent some time picking band names and costume ideas....tomorrow should be a blast!! Ladies & Gentlemen, we are delighted to present the cast of the 2016 Center Stage Summer Theatre Camp production of Bye Bye Birdie. Please know that we are grateful for every single camper's effort and talent. Casting a show is by no means an easy process, but all the actors and actresses were complete professionals throughout, and we are certain that each and every part will be played the best that it can be. Check out below the list for some tremendous pics of today's events. Thank you all, and see you tomorrow! But, before all of that the kids were warmed up using some fun games that also teach various theatre skills like focus, quick reactions, character development, and more! One of their favorite games is Captain on Deck, which Brian also enjoys as he gets to use his wit to trick the kids into messing up, not always an easy feat! We also played Samurai and Dinner Party, games that require concentration and stealth. After warming up the kids were split into groups to learn music and dance- boys learning to sing "Put On A Happy Face" and girls learned the music to "Lovely to be a Woman", and all learning the dance moves to "Got A Lot of Livin' To Do". Everyone did fantastic and Connie was really impressed with not only their dance skills but also their enthusiasm to learn dance big! The kids then spent the rest of the morning practicing lines with friends, gearing up for the afternoon's auditions, which went very well and continued to Wednesday. Here are some photos from the morning, we can't wait to see the kids today finish their auditions! Hey folks! Shaun here, giving you the first blog post from the 2016 Center Stage Camp and Bye Bye Birdie! We had many workshops and activities today, so I took a few pictures so you could see what was going on throughout our day. It seems like we have a great group of campers this year and we are so looking forward to the work over the next five weeks! Of course before we could get to any of the fun stuff for the day, we had to lay down a few ground rules for the next five weeks (above). Campers, please remember to bring back your signed contracts tomorrow! Before we separated into our workshop groups, we got the chance to play a great game called Captain on Deck (below). For our first workshop, our choreographer, Connie, taught us how to survive a dance audition. As an example, she taught the campers the choreography for the song "Space Jam" (above), which might look familiar from out Spotlight Camp earlier this summer. Below, you can see campers Brandon, Connor, and Jason sharpening their dance skills! In our other workshops today, Dana gave the campers a nice chunk of background information about the show they'll be auditioning for tomorrow, Bye Bye Birdie. Brian, in the meantime, helped us all out by covering the dos and don'ts of reading in an audition. I snagged a shot of this workshop (above), and it looks like Giovanna and Dylan caught me! (Below) you can see Dominic testing out his audition skills for Brian and the rest of the campers in his workshop group. Oh, and everyone, here is Elaine! The newest member of the Camp Staff here at TNCA this summer. She probably didn't know this photo was blog-bound when it was being taken :-p.
...one giant leap for Spotlight Camp. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our work from the past two weeks! Every camper shined brightly, and we are grateful for their time & talent. Congratulations to all! |
