Holy cow! I haven't posted all summer!
Camps sure our taking over the world, little by little! We have three theatre camps going on here at TrueNorth. Our Center Stage Camp will be opening their fun new musical "MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL!" this Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th. The campers have made their own props and costumes under the direction of Maryanne Nagel & choreographer Kelsey Hamilton. You won't want to miss this fun trip back to middle school with some of our favorite musical theatre songs. My favorite is "I just can't wait to graduate". (Giggle.) We also have a Boys & Girls Club Theatre Camp. Myself and a few other (amazing) counselors visit the center a few days a week, teaching basic dance, music, and acting techniques while we prepare Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Jr. If you love the cartoon classic, you will love this version. It makes your heart grow a few sizes bigger when you see these kids grow and fall in love with the art. The high school camp...Oh. I'm sorry. I hate to interrupt my own blog, but I believe the students of our high school camp would prefer it if I introduced their paragraph in the blog in a bit more dramatic way, so I should probably start it like this: (The "take the stage reference is from our hit camp song entitled, Take the Stage.) ... ahem...And now, readers of my blog, taking the stage for the first time, we proudly present our BROADWAY BOUND CAMP! (Insert thunderous applause.) Now that I got that out of my system...The Boys & Girls Club join our High Schoolers a few times a week as we all present, Disney's Alice in Wonderland. Not only is the show fun, wacky, and (dare I say) cute, but it's great to see these two camps work together and to see leaders rise up from the High Schoolers. We are closer and closer to performing on August 12, 13, and 14! For tickets for these shows call 440-949-5200 or visit www.tncarts.org. (It's totes easy.) ((OK. I've been hanging out with kids for far too long.) Thanks for reading! Alex Side note to any students reading. (Hi!) I stared rehearsals this week for"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"; the (literally) hilarious musical about 6 misfit kids (who are played by adults) who's dream it is to win this spelling bee. The cast is amazing, with incredible voices that make me melt, and have I mentioned they're hilarious? This would be a great show for you to check out comedic timing, fierce ensemble and solo singing/performing, and specific/brilliant character development to the max! It will be September 16-Oct 2nd here at T.North. (A bit much on the "brilliant"?) Side note to any parents reading. (Hi!) Spelling Bee has adult language and isn't really meant for young kids. But it's a fun date night, or girls night out... or guys night out? I, personally think it's mostly suited for high schoolers and up, but you know best! :) I'll, also, be starting a documentary series at French Creek on September 13 with SPELLBOUND, following student spellers on their way to the National Spelling Bee.
