DAY 8 Outside the day was cool and gloomy, inside the campers enthusiastically began Day 8 as Mr. Brian gathered the camp for the morning games session which begins each day. Divided into three groups for an elimination game of categories in which Lee defeated Mr. David and Mr. Dana in the final round to win lunch cookies for Group 3. Theatre Exercises continued with group sculptures and tableaux. The theatre intensive sessions which began on Monday finished off as each group worked on the specialized skill class they had not yet attended. Connie led a group dance warm up and class assisted by Ariel which explored deeper stretches, body isolations and moves than time allows during the rehearsal session of learning the show choreography. Lawrence assisted by Kelsey gave a class teaching the rhythmic basics of music which they then used both to create a composition and to invent a system for notating it for the future. JD, helped by Shaun and Dana, used a competitive trivia game to review a history of Musical Theatre and got the campers to discuss various shows, movies and performances and what makes them work and become favorites. The rain and winds held off enough to allow the campers to make their usual split between those who lunch at the outside picnic tables and those who lunch in the classroom.
Brian had new group theatre games to start the afternoon and everyone became group shapes on faster and faster cues. (Elephant, Broccoli, Palm Trees and more) Work on our show rounded out Day 8 with Connie choreographing the principal characters in Time of My Life while Lawrence reviewed the others on all the music learned to date. After that the prom number was integrated by the two groups after which Brian dismissed camp for the day.
