Week one. COMPLETE!
Or should I say, " Shiver me timbers! Avast- week one is done!" (That's the pirate translation!" Our TREASURE HUNT camp is going amazingly. Dare I say, it's my favorite camp, ever. We have the best group of pirates a captain could ask for. They are eager, passionate, and put their ALL into every activity we do. Let me tell you a bit more about what we pirates do, you land-lubbers. After we play a good-morning warm-up, campers learn a pirate word o' the day. (Land-lubber: A non sailor.) We then discover that our home-made treasure boxes are missing and we go on an epic treasure hunt to find candy and puzzle pieces that tell us the theme of the day. Every day we are searching for the ultimate treasure that makes our final show phenomenal. We play a few games and discuss the treasure of the day. (Friday's was dance.) After snack we rehearse for the premire of TrueNorth's "The Treasure Hunt" on Friday July 1st at 11:15. Come check out the two pirate crews battle it out! By the way... our pirate crews are The Jolly Rodgers and The Flaming Lava Swords.

Camp started on Monday! (Insert boisterous cheer.) We are having such a blast with this one-week camp. I am surprised daily by these 3-5 year olds. These campers (better than most of the staff) remember everything we rehearsed the day before, they have great audience behavior, and are really getting into every activity we do. Too bad this camp is only a week. These kids are stars! I have to confess: I am all about themes. Teddy Bear Picnic certainly doesn't disappoint. Every camper has a Teddy for the week that they've named. My Teddy's name is "Boo Boo Bear" because he's the only bear with a few rips and tears. In the mornings we rehearse speaking in front of the group announcing our bear names, we help paint the set, we practice a few songs while playing with drums, running around and making our bears dance, and we get to know each other. After snack the campers go on a BEAR SEARCH on the trails here. Somewhere hidden in the trees the campers will find the bear of the day (today's bear was a Polar Bear) and they'll learn a few facts about that bear. We then find out who wants to perform solos and duets. (You should hear these kids get up and sing "Twinkle Twinkle" or "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"!) Camp ends with a few rehearsals of our show-- Teddy Bear Picnic. Today the campers were surprised with Teddy Bear Gram Crackers! MMMM! I think the parents, family, and friends will love the show and be extremely proud of their campers on Friday at 11:15! After the show we have our free & monthly Noon Time Concert that will be perfect for the family. Alex Til next time, here's a preview of next weeks camp...! |
